Terms and Conditions by Lauren Asher

In order for Declan to get his part of his inheritance, Declan must marry and have a child.

The book starts with Declan’s engagement, one catch, the fiance bails. Iris who is Declan’s personal assistant steps in and agrees to marry Declan and have his child. Both Declan and Iris agree to sign a contract. In theory they know that it is only for three years and then they will go their separate ways and both have custody of their future child. Neither however thought that their show of feelings that they put on for other people would become the real thing.

Declan is quite a grumpy person, Iris describes him as always having a frown on his face. He has gone through quite a few personal assistants before Iris. Iris is the one person who has stuck by him for the past 3 years.

Iris is the opposite of Declan and because they have different personalities they work quite well with each other at work.

Both Iris and Declan have difficult relationships with their fathers. Declan’s is quite apparent throughout the book as they constantly butt heads and try to out do each other trying to win over a deal which is important to Declan.

Iris has a learning difficulty called dyslexia which she tries to hide from Declan . This means that she is working twice as hard to do her job, as she has to double check her work all of the time, also knowing that someone without the learning difficulty would be able to do it in half of the time.

Declan however knows this and has researched ways to help Iris without making it a big deal. He does things like phoning Iris with instructions, or getting everyone to change the style of font to use because its easier to read or to take in and understand verbal instruction as opposed to written instructions. Declan also reveals one of his vulnerable sides by sharing with Iris that his mother had the same learning difficulty.

I think this is why I resonated with Iris so much because I have dyslexia myself so I totally get Iris. This is also why I loved Declan because those things that he did to try and make it easier for Iris to do her job actually do work.

I really enjoyed that Iris takes no crap from Declan and shows him how to not work so much and I loved how she bought out that vulnerable side to Declan. Together these two just worked.

This was so nearly a 5* book for me. The beginning was so good and I was giggling, I loved Iris and Declan as couple and how much they bring out the vulnerable sides of each other. I loved their happy ending and even enjoyed their third act break up and how Iris made Declan work to get her back as he said some really hurtful things in his anger over a deal and the fact that his own Father was trying to sabotage him.

I can’t quite put my finger on it but it fell flat for me in the middle and I got a bit bored and the characters felt lost, thankfully this picked up again quicky. That is the only reason why it is not quite a 5* book.

I rated Terms and Conditions a 4.75*
